  • Aaron Kierbel

    Teaching Artist

    Aaron Kierbel teaches music and percussion at So Peninsula Hebrew Day School. He has a wipe off board next to his chair that shows his curriculum and expectations of students in the classes.

    He covers the basic elements of percussion through learning rhythms from around the world on hand drums.

    Students learn improvisation, how to lead/follow and how to effectively be a part of a team through a series of rhythmic games, activities and lessons which will culminate in a live performance.

    Teaching Artist

    Capoeira is a unique martial art that offers countless benefits to children with respect to both physical and mental development. By incorporating body movement, percussion, music and singing, Capoeira helps develop balance, coordination, fitness, flexibility, and rhythm.

    About the class: we know from years of experience that capoeira is a powerful way to teach young people valuable life skills— confidence, leadership, goal-setting, teamwork, cooperation, concentration, adaptability, respect and rapid development in strength and agility,—that can lead to a lifetime of good health and civic involvement. Capoeira is truly a holistic approach to youth development.Capoeira also builds social skills, a sense of community and self esteem through creative expression.

  • Stan Summy

    Teaching Artist

    Stan is an audio engineer, musician, and composer with a commitment to music education.

    His goal is to make audio education more accessible for the next generation of audio engineers and music producers.

    He studied Music Recording Technology and Audio Design while earning his Bachelor of Music at San Diego State University and then went on to earn his Master of Fine Arts at Mills College while studying Electronic Music and Recording Media.

    In addition to teaching, Stan works professionally as a recording engineer, live sound mixer, and post-production mixer.

  • Michael Orlinsky

    Teaching Artist

    In the Bay Area Michael teaches songwriting, ukulele, art song, and opera scenes opera scene programs blending performance and education.

    His programs include the San Francisco Opera Department of Diversity, Equity and Community, and with The San Francisco Opera Guild among others, leading operas developed and performed by students.

    Michael has performed over 70 roles as a baritone and a tenor, Including over 20 premiere works, as well as playing, writing, and recording classical and contemporary music.

    Michael earned a Master’s Degree in music; with an emphasis on voice.
