Donated Instrument Inspires Learning

Since 1989, Music In Schools Today has placed over $1 million dollars worth of gently used instruments into schools throughout the Bay Area.  Recently, Montera Middle received a donated tuba.

Dear Music In Schools Today,

I just wanted to tell you what a HUGE impact your donation has had on the Montera Music Program!  Since I started teaching at Montera 4 years ago, no one wanted to play tuba, because all the school had was an old, dented tuba that had a stuffy tone and couldn’t play in tune. I wanted to purchase a new tuba, but with a price tag of $2,000-3,000 and no school budget for the music program, purchasing such an instrument was an impossibility for me.

But that all changed several weeks ago, when I received an instrument donation from you—a shiny new tuba!  Immediately upon showing the instrument to my band, I had 3 students interested in playing it!  So, I have instantly gone from no one wanting to play tuba in the school band, to THREE students wanting to play it.

I can’t thank you enough for your support!!!  On behalf of my students and our entire school community, THANK YOU!!!

Sincerely,

Eric Swihart, Music Program Director

Montera Middle School
