Partnering with San Lorenzo for Multi-Cultural Arts Enrichment

This week we’d like to highlight our Music Enrichment program in San Lorenzo! A couple years back, MUST began a small music enrichment program with the San Lorenzo Unified School District. We started with a few music classes and after much success, we have now grown to 24 music, dance, and visual art classes in every elementary and middle school in the district. Classes include Vocal Jam, Street Art, Comic Book Making, African Dance, World Percussion, Salsa Dance, Piano, Guitar, Haitian Dancing, Haitian Drumming, Mexican Music, Paper Arts, Fashion Design, Performing Arts, Peace Choir, Visual Art Studio, Diasporic Dance, Capoeira, Brazilian Dance and Hip Hop Dance! Classes are taught by talented local Bay Area artists who are highly skilled in their craft. More information on our Music Enrichment Program: Music classes help at-risk youth improve school performance and build life skills. Our most popular program provides hand-tailored music classes to schools and community centers. Our trained Teaching Artists can teach during the school day or as part of an after-school program. New Year’s Resolutions

2018 is finally here, and with the new year comes resolutions! This is a time to set goals, make changes, or maybe just try something new. If your resolution is to be healthier, pick up a new hobby or help those that are less fortunate, we have some suggestions for you! Start taking instrument lessons or join a choir. Find a new way to burn calories by dancing. Take a class, go to a dance club, or just turn up the music and dance in your own home! Explore new music genres and expand your tastes. Go see your favorite band live. Or pick a local band you’re never heard before and see them perform. Have a mindful moment accompanied by some soothing music. Clean out your closets, garages, and basements and donate a gently used instruments to MUST. Help change a child’s life through music with a cash donation to support Bay Area music programs. What are your plans for the New Year? Let us know and don’t forget to make it musical! Happy New Year from everyone at Music in Schools Today!       Please follow and like...

Your Donation Will Change a Child’s Life

Kamilyah loves to play the flute. Last fall, sharing a loaner flute with her classmates in the Oakland Edna Brewer Middle School band meant she couldn’t rehearse at home. Then, thanks to a gift of their own beloved flute, a MUST donor made Kamilyah’s wish come true. “Now that I have my very own flute, I can take it home to practice, even during the summer.” Although she admits to being a shy student, with the confidence she gained from extra practice, Kamilyah volunteered to do a solo performance . “She didn’t sound at all shy and awkward. She brought down the house!” – Zack Pitt-Smith, Band Director – Edna Brewer Middle School.   Kamilyah’s is just one of many musical wishes fulfilled by MUST donors. The children who need it most receive gently used instruments, improve literacy skills in our pre-school program, and learn about new cultures in our elementary school program. This year our musical instrument donation program reached over 51,000 children, and we provided in-school and after-school music programs to over 5,000 children in the districts of Daly City, Oakland, San Bruno, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, and San Mateo. Despite anticipated budget cutbacks, they are requesting increased services. MUST leads the way in ensuring every child in the Bay Area has access to quality music education! We are making a big push to raise $200,000 to ensure we can meet all our commitments. You can make a critical difference with your tax-deductible donation.  To keep free music programs available to children like Kamilyah, we need your help! Please donate today  at musicinschoolstoday.org! P.S. Double your impact: Our Board...

House Concert Raises Money for MUST

This past weekend, Avi Vinocur and Maurice Tani played a house concert to benefit music education programs in the Bay Area and members of the community came together for a night of fun, music, and supporting MUST! House concerts are a great way to see your favorite artists play in an intimate setting, or to discover new music. Many times these concerts will benefit a local nonprofit, such as ours this past weekend. If you’ve never been to a house concert, we highly recommend it! We’re grateful to Avi and Maurice for the amazing show they put on. Support local artists and check out their music! Avi Vinocur Maurice Tani       Please follow and like...
