Give your students the experience of a professional live music performance/demonstration from a variety of multi-cultural performers. MUST offers in-class or school-wide performances for students of all ages.


 AlphaRock

Alphabet Rockers

Learn to read through music! Spearheaded by MUST teaching artist, Tommy Shepard, this multi-cultural group teaches literacy to pre-k and K students through song, beats, rhymes and movement.

Bomba

Bomba!

The infectious rhythms of Puerto Rican music, song and dance! Aguacero Performance and Education group, plays, sings and dances songs from a 300-year history that are heavily based in improvisation. Students will be taught call and response songs and will be asked to learn a few simple dance moves. This performance can be taught bilingually and will reinforce bilingual daytime instruction. It can be a featured presentation for Hispanic Heritage month. Quenepas (ages 5 – 14) the children’s bomba performance group can be made available for special occasions like Children’s International Day.

SteelDrums

Caribbean Steel Drums

MUST Teaching Artist, Mark Rosenthal, brings the music of the Caribbean island of Trinidad in a rich and interactive lesson to your school! Steel drums are known for their sweet, melodic sound. Mark Rosenthal will play reggae and calypso as well as jazz and pop tunes. Children volunteers can try their hand at playing a pan.

DeFlores

Cascada de Flores “The Tree and the Donkey who loved to sing” AKA “El Abuelo”

A bilingual and participatory story exploding with the song, ancient musical instruments, poly-rhythms and sweet characters of Mexican music and dance. Cascada de Flores celebrates 15 years of working with and performing for youth of all ages and backgrounds. This show can be a duet, or a trío for larger venues.

Falso

Grupo Falso Baiano

A choro group that offers a window into the history and diverse culture of Brazil. Led by MUST Teaching Artists, Ami Molinelli and Zack Pitt Smith, GPB will play and demonstrate choro, one of Brazil’s earliest popular musics, dating back to the late 1800s. Similar to jazz, it reflects the melding of African rhythms with a melodic and harmonic structure closely resembling Baroque Classical music. They bring choro and Brazilian music to students throughout California.

Jazz Masters

Celebrated educator, Melecio Magdaluyo, brings together a playful and interactive history presentation in jazz music. It includes instruction on melody, harmony, rhythm and African American History. A mini jazz instrument petting zoo can also be available with this presentation.

Rockon

Rock On!

A high energy and interactive performance / demonstration by MUST Teaching Artist, Joshua Boronkay, teaches that while rock is a very popular form of music, it takes more than screaming and banging on instruments to make it music. Students will experience a lesson in simple songwriting for Rock as they write a song as a group.

VisionTrio

Vision Latina Trio

Take a journey through the many countries of Latin America through music! This interactive performance, taught bilingually (Spanish / English) will teach children about Latin American instruments, melody, harmony, and history. This performance can be used to reinforce the bilingual daytime instruction taught by your school. It can be tailored to a festival or month like Cinco de Mayo or Hispanic Heritage month.
